A common question we get is “What is the difference between a quick iso and a production iso?” While very similar, the two methods have a couple different results and different purposes.
A quick iso is intended to address troubleshooting issues. You should have a check style setup that displays helpful troubleshooting information like coordinates and or extra dimensional data. When creating a quick Iso, you select components to include. Using a selection method makes it easy to select items from multiple lines (a good and bad thing). You want to be careful to troubleshoot isos by select all the items in the line (select, right+click > Add to Selection > Entire line number or Connected line number).
Being able to select items with the Entire line number is helpful because sometime components get assigned the wrong line number. When you do a production iso on a line with mislabeled parts, you would get breaks wherever the line number changed.
In summary, I recommend using the Quick Iso feature to troubleshoot isos.
Production isos serve as the final iso output and are created by line number only (no selection). You create a production iso when you want to have an iso on record as complete.
Production isos also appear on the Isometric DWG tab.
You have more options when you right-click on a line in the Isometric Drawing tab.
Not only can you product more isos for a line, you can also lock the line. In Plant 3D, locking the line from the Isometric drawing tab, means that the pipe will be modifiable in the model.
Having the ability to lock a line, means that you’re model is secure until you are ready to create a new revision.
