Exporting Filtered Parts

One client, Craig Sablich, figured out a feature that had me stymied up until now.  The issue is that when you export parts from a catalog to Excel, if you don’t choose export all data, you only get one part per part family, which means that you can’t edit all of the parts.

To correctly export the parts, set the filter you want.  I recommend against filtering out sizes, as the change will not apply for every component in the part family if all the sizes are not in the exported spreadsheet.

For example, let’s say I want to export and edit gate valves that are 150 lb, RF.

Click the Show All part Sizes button.  This is the magical step that allows us to export every size of item in the families displayed, without exporting the entire catalog.

Set the end type, facing, and short description (GATE VALVE) in the filter.

Next, Export to Excel:

You can leave the export as the current catalog filter and choose your spreadsheet name and location.

When you open your spreadsheet, you’ll have a much shorter list of items to work with.
