Dimensions vs. Lengths in BOM for AutoCAD Structural Detailing

We haven’t talked about ASD, but it’s time we start getting some information out there.

A call came in this morning with an issue on lengths in the BOM vs. dimensioned lengths.  The client showed dim’d values of 3/8” and 5/8” on 2 different beams, but the BOM was listing those lengths as 1/4” or 1/2” lengths.  Unacceptable, right?

You dimension precision is set through your dimstyle, as ASD uses standard ACAD dimstyles, that is easy to verify:

The BOM fix is simple, you just have to know where to look to modify.

Start by selecting the Tables styles… button from the Settings panel on the ASD – Drawings tab of your ribbon:

With the MATERIAL SUMMARY Table selected, click Modify…

From the list of available columns, select the Total Length field, and at the bottom you will see the Units update.  Set this to align to your dimstyle.

Select OK, and OK to close the 2 dialogs, then Update the table, and you should have the correct lengths now shown.
